New Hope was Mesquite's rival until a storm flattened it in 1921
1921
Sunnyvale, Texas
New Hope grew big enough in the nineteenth century to run its own newspaper, post office, school and baseball club, plus an annual fair called Gala Days, and it competed directly with neighbouring Mesquite. A storm tore through in 1921 and the town never got back what it lost. It went into the 1953 merger that created Sunnyvale, and a few old houses are what remains.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
