National Park Seminary, a finishing school of pagodas and castles turned Army rehab

A failed resort hotel at Forest Glen became a girls' finishing school in 1894, and its sorority houses went up as a Japanese pagoda, an English castle, a Dutch windmill and a Swiss chalet. The Army bought the campus in 1942 and ran it as the Forest Glen annex of Walter Reed, fitting amputees with prosthetics and rehabilitating other wounded soldiers. Veterans of three wars passed through before the Army left in 1977. The buildings decayed for decades and are housing again now.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
