Morgan's Point and the Yellow Rose of Texas legend

Morgan's Point, Texas

This was New Washington, Colonel James Morgan's landing at the mouth of the ship channel. Emily D. West, a free Black woman from Connecticut, had contracted to work here when Santa Anna's army seized the settlement in April 1836. The story that she detained the general and handed Texas the win at San Jacinto is folklore rather than record, but it fused with the song and stuck. The point later filled with the bay houses of wealthy Houstonians.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
