Meadowview, where Hudson County moved its asylum after Snake Hill
1927
County Avenue, Secaucus, New Jersey
The county opened its Hospital for the Insane on Snake Hill in 1864 with room for 140 patients, in wards divided by sex and several beds to a room. In 1927 it loaded them into buses and ambulances and drove them across the meadows to a new building on County Avenue, renaming the place the Hudson County Hospital for Mental Diseases. Committal had never been limited to the mentally ill. The hospital is still running on the same site under the name Meadowview.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
