Fernando Zulueta opened this middle and high school on Northwest 103rd Street in 2002. Three years earlier he had incorporated Academica, a for-profit company that sells charter schools their buildings, curriculum, accounting and staffing, and Mater became its flagship name. The Mater network now runs 49 schools across Florida and Nevada, and Academica services roughly 200 charter schools in several states.
