Margaret Fuller's birthplace became a settlement house

Margaret Fuller was born in this Federal house on Cherry Street in 1810 and lived here until she was sixteen. She edited the transcendentalists' journal The Dial, wrote the first major American argument for women's equality, and reported the 1849 Roman revolution for a New York paper before drowning off Fire Island. In 1902 the house was turned into a settlement house for the immigrant families around it, and it still runs community programmes.
