Macombs Dam Bridge, the third oldest bridge in New York
1895
Highbridge, the Bronx
Alfred Pancoast Boller's swing span opened in 1895 and still turns on its centre pier to let Harlem River traffic through, the oldest metal truss swing bridge in the city. It links 155th Street in Manhattan with Jerome Avenue and 161st Street beside Yankee Stadium. The name comes from a Macomb family mill dam across the river, which boat owners tore out in 1838 after years of arguing that it blocked navigation.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
