Nathaniel Lynch set up a crossing here where Buffalo Bayou meets the San Jacinto River in 1822, and platted a town around it in the mid 1830s. When Santa Anna moved in April 1836 to cut off the Texas army's retreat over the ferry, families fleeing east in the Runaway Scrape piled up on this bank. Dilue Rose Harris later recalled waiting three days there among thousands of others. The settlers Lynch expected never came, and by 1892 the town was down to a saloon and two general stores.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
