Lowell Cemetery, where the mill owners were buried
1841
Lowell, Massachusetts
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Laid out along the Concord River in 1841 on the model of Mount Auburn in Cambridge, this is one of the earliest garden cemeteries in the country. The industrialists who ran the mills lie here under heavy Victorian monuments, at a comfortable distance from the boarding houses their workers slept in. Seventy three of the eighty four acres went on the National Register in 1998.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
