Longue Vue, the club Pittsburgh's industrialists built for themselves
1922
Penn Hills, Pennsylvania
In 1920 Edward Mudge talked a group of Pittsburgh executives into wanting a course of their own, and a week later they had bought 370 acres of farmland on the highest point in Penn Hills for 150,000 dollars. Among them were a Pittsburgh mayor, the president of Weirton Steel and the president of Westinghouse Air Brake, which is how it got the nickname the Millionaires Club. Robert White, first president of the PGA of America, laid out the course in 1922, and A. W. Tillinghast reworked it in 1935.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
