Wilder was in her sixties, farming here with her husband, when she began writing the childhood on the Kansas and Dakota frontier in pencil on school tablets. Her daughter Rose, a professional writer with hard political views, edited them heavily, and how much of the finished books is whose has been argued over ever since.
