The Little House on the Prairie homestead in Kansas
1869
Little House on the Prairie Museum, near Independence, Kansas
The Ingalls family homesteaded here from 1869 to 1871, the years Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote about in Little House on the Prairie, and her sister Carrie was born here in 1870. The museum on the site has a replica of the cabin and other old buildings brought in from the area, and is open from spring to October. The television series was set in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, and Wilder wrote the books at Rocky Ridge in Missouri.
