Lakeland High School, the county's second high school for Black children
1928
College Park, Maryland
Families from Lakeland, North Brentwood, Bladensburg, Muirkirk and Laurel spent the 1920s asking the county for a high school their children were allowed to attend. It opened in 1928 with forty five students, paid for from several sources including seventeen hundred dollars from the Rosenwald fund. It stopped being a high school in 1950 and closed for good as a special education centre in 1983. A church uses the building now.
