Lake Station drops the name East Gary
1977
Lake Station, Indiana
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The Michigan Central put Lake County's first railroad depot here in the 1850s and the settlement took the station's name. In 1908 it renamed itself East Gary, hoping US Steel executives would build houses this far out. The executives did not come and mill workers did, and in 1977 the city dropped the Gary name and went back to Lake Station.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
