John Kiriakou was the first CIA officer to confirm on camera that the agency waterboarded prisoners and to call it torture, and he became the only official jailed over the program, not for torturing anyone but for confirming a colleague's name to a reporter. He served nearly two years at the low-security federal prison in Loretto starting in 2013, writing Letters from Loretto that were published as he went. Everyone who ran the program kept their pensions.
