Keuffel and Esser, who made the slide rules
1875
Adams Street, Hoboken, New Jersey
Two German immigrants started a drafting supply firm in New York in 1867 and moved the works to Hoboken in 1875, where it grew to nearly 300,000 square feet and more than ten thousand catalogue items. K&E slide rules were the standard instrument of American engineering for most of a century, and its Deci-Lon was the one Apollo engineers carried. The Hoboken plant closed in 1968 and the pocket calculator finished the rest.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
