Kearny Riverbank Park, a brownfield handed back to the river

Kearny's linear park runs along the Passaic through the Uplands, north of Bergen Avenue. In 2011 it was pushed through to the Belleville Turnpike over reclaimed industrial ground, and a state appropriation the following year paid for the greenway that ties it together. This stretch of the Passaic has been rowing water for well over a century, and the park holds the boathouse used by crews from the Kearny, Belleville and Nutley high schools.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
