Jumbo the elephant burns at Tufts
1975

P. T. Barnum endowed a natural history museum at Tufts and filled it with animals from his circus, the prize exhibit being the stuffed hide of Jumbo, the elephant whose name became the English word for oversized. Fire gutted the building on 14 April 1975 and took the whole collection. Jumbo is still the college's mascot, and the story goes that the athletic director scraped his ashes into a peanut butter jar that the teams keep.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
