Joe T. Garcia's opens as a barbecue counter on the North Side
1935
North Side, Fort Worth, Texas
Jose Tafolla Garcia opened a small place called Joe T. Barbecue near the Stockyards on 4 July 1935. His wife Jessie ran the kitchen, working eighteen hour days into her seventies. The James Beard Foundation named it one of its America's Classics in 1998. The family still runs it, the line still goes down the block, and it still takes cash only.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
