Jersey Gardens, an outlet mall on a capped landfill
1999

New Jersey's largest outlet mall opened in October 1999 on 166 acres of closed municipal landfill, cleaned and capped, across the road from Newark Airport. It runs to about 1.3 million square feet. New Jersey charges no sales tax on clothing, and the terminals are minutes away, which is most of the business plan.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
