Jamaica High School closes after 160 years
1929

The school opened in 1854 as a union free school in a three storey wooden building and moved twice before landing in 1929 on a hilltop off Gothic Drive, in a building designed to look like a civic monument rather than a classroom block. It became one of the largest high schools in the city. The Department of Education shut it down in 2014 after years of low results, and the building now holds several small schools instead.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
