Horton moves the city to the bay
1867
San Diego, California
Bernard Gagnon · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
Alonzo Horton bought 960 acres of scrub at auction for about 27 cents an acre, on the reasoning that a port city should be next to its harbour rather than three miles inland. Old Town emptied out within a decade and New Town became downtown San Diego.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
