Homer G. Phillips, the hospital that trained a generation

Built because a Black lawyer named Homer Phillips campaigned for a public hospital that would actually serve Black St. Louis, and named for him after he was shot dead in 1931 with nobody convicted. At its height it trained a large share of all the Black doctors and nurses in the United States, because most other teaching hospitals would not take them. The city closed it in 1979 over sustained protest and the building is apartments now.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
