Hofmann Tower, a brewer's folly over the Des Plaines
1908
Lyons, Illinois

The brewer George Hofmann Jr. Put up this tower and a dam beside it in 1908, the centrepiece of a riverside park where Chicagoans came to picnic and take boats out. His heirs sold it to the Cook County forest preserves in 1946. Two Lyons residents worked it onto the National Register in 1978, and it has since been closed to the public as the structure deteriorated.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
