Highland Park incorporated as a city in 1916 and put up this hospital on Glendale Avenue almost immediately, finishing the building in 1918 and opening the doors in 1921. It served mainly Black patients through decades when hospital care in the region was rationed by race. It closed in 1976 and the complex, nurses' residence included, is now senior apartments.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
