Hessville, the Hammond neighbourhood that A Christmas Story is really about
1983
Hammond, Indiana
Jean Shepherd grew up on Cleveland Street in this corner of southeast Hammond and turned it into the fictional town of Hohman, named after the street that runs through downtown Hammond. The stories he collected in 1966 became the 1983 film, which was shot in Cleveland and Toronto rather than here. Underneath the bungalows the ground is old Lake Michigan dune and swale, still visible in the Gibson Woods and Seidner preserves that survived the neighbourhood being built on top of it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
