Harpers Ferry hands over the storm
1862
Bolivar Heights, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Stonewall Jackson put guns on the heights above the town and forced the surrender of more than twelve thousand Union soldiers in September 1862, the largest capitulation of United States troops until Bataan. He then marched most of his men to Antietam in time to save Lee's right flank. The garrison's commander was killed by a shell after the white flag went up.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
