Gringo, the oil patch hamlet that only survives as a road name
1890
Gringo, Pennsylvania
Gringo sat on what is now Route 151 in Hopewell Township, above an oil field worked from the late 1800s, with at least one well still pumping into the 1960s. How a Beaver County crossroads came by a Spanish American slur for outsiders has never been settled. The place has dropped off current maps, and what is left of it is Gringo Road and a couple of business signs.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
