Greyston Bakery hires whoever is next on the list
1982
Yonkers, New York
The Zen teacher Bernie Glassman started this bakery in 1982 and hired anyone willing to work, with no interview, no resume and no background check, a policy the company now calls open hiring. It is a for profit business whose earnings go to the Greyston Foundation for housing, childcare and health work in southwest Yonkers. Millions of pounds of its brownies a year end up inside Ben and Jerry's ice cream.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
