Adena people moved something like sixty thousand tons of earth in baskets to raise a conical mound sixty-two feet high, over generations, around two thousand years ago. Nineteenth-century owners drove a shaft into the middle and ran a museum and a saloon inside it. The state penitentiary was later built directly across the road, so the two face each other.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
