Golden Gate National Cemetery, built in San Bruno because San Francisco banned new graves
1941
San Bruno, California

San Francisco voters had already barred any new cemetery inside the city, so when Congress authorised a national cemetery for the region in 1937 the site went south past the county line to San Bruno. Burials began in 1941 and the grounds now hold roughly 145,000 graves across 161 acres. It sits about 12 miles from the actual Golden Gate and is regularly confused with the older San Francisco National Cemetery in the Presidio.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
