Daniel Bissell was a War of 1812 general stationed at Fort Belle Fontaine, the first United States army post west of the Mississippi, and he finished this Federal style house at Franklinville Farm in 1819. The fort is long gone and the house is now a county museum on Bellefontaine Road, the trail that once ran from the post down to St. Louis. In 2024 it was recognized as an Underground Railroad site.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
