Before Central Park, before the phrase landscape architect existed, Olmsted spent seven years here running a farm his father bought him, clearing pasture and planting trees on a hill above Raritan Bay. Some of what he planted is still growing. The Dutch colonial farmhouse survives on Hylan Boulevard in city hands.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
