Frances Willard's Rest Cottage and the WCTU headquarters

Frances Willard ran the Woman's Christian Temperance Union from this 1865 house, which she called Rest Cottage, with the union's longtime headquarters in the building next door. She led the WCTU from 1879 until her death in 1898 and tied temperance to women's suffrage. Evanston itself stayed dry until 1972. The National WCTU still owns the house, which is now a National Historic Landmark.
