Fort Winthrop and its whole island are buried under Logan Airport
1808
East Boston, Massachusetts
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
An earthen fort went up on Governors Island between 1808 and 1812, and a stone replacement was started in the 1840s but abandoned unfinished by the 1890s. In 1946 the fort was demolished and the island itself was joined to the mainland and swallowed by Logan Airport's runway expansion. Governors Island is still down there under the fill, north of the south end of runway 14/32.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
