Forest Hills Stadium, where the US Open grew up

The national championship moved to this club in 1915 and stayed until 1977, when it left for Flushing Meadows. Althea Gibson became the first Black player in the tournament on these courts in 1950, and Arthur Ashe won the first US Open of the open era here in 1968. The concrete horseshoe also held the Beatles for two nights in August 1964, a year before Shea.
