Ford builds cars beside Lambert Field for 58 years
1948
Hazelwood, Missouri
Ford broke ground north of Lambert Field in 1946 and opened the St. Louis Assembly Plant in 1948, at its height employing about 5,000 people. It was still turning out Explorers, Aviators and Mountaineers when Ford closed it in 2006 under the Way Forward restructuring, with 1,445 workers left on the payroll. The plant was demolished in 2009.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
