Flagler Monument Island, an obelisk on an island dredged to hold it
1920
Miami Beach, Florida
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Carl Fisher had an island pumped up out of Biscayne Bay for the sole purpose of putting a monument on it. The 110 foot obelisk honours Henry Flagler, the railroad builder who brought the tracks to Miami and died in 1913, and allegorical figures stand at its base. Nobody has ever lived there and it can only be reached by boat.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
