Dana A. Dorsey, the real estate owner usually named as Miami's first Black millionaire, bought the 21 acre island in 1918 intending to open a beach resort for Black families, who were barred from the sand across the water. He could not get it built and sold within about a year. Carl Fisher ended up with it, later handing a large share to William K. Vanderbilt II in exchange for Vanderbilt's 250 foot yacht.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
