Fidelity Manor High School, Galena Park's Black high school
1955
Galena Park, Texas
Black students in this district had no high school of their own until the Galena Manor Civic Club organised for one, and Fidelity Manor opened in January 1955. Black schooling on this ground was much older: a Clinton Colored School was operating here by 1886, and by the 1930s Black pupils were sent to a building the district had moved off a white campus. Desegregation merged Fidelity Manor into the previously all white Galena Park High School in 1969, and the buildings came down in 1986.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
