Empire Stores, the coffee warehouses of the Brooklyn waterfront
1869

Seven joined warehouses of brick and stacked schist went up on this waterfront between 1869 and 1885 to hold green coffee coming off the ships. Arbuckle Brothers, who made their fortune selling pre-roasted coffee in sealed packages when the country still bought it raw, stored beans here for the Yuban brand. The complex stood derelict for decades. A conversion finished in 2015 left the hoist wheels and the coffee chutes where they were.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
