Delaney was born in Fernandina in 1871 and trained at Spelman as a teacher and a nurse. The Baptist State Convention of Florida met at the town's First Baptist Church in 1899 and decided to send her to Africa. She reached the British Central Africa Protectorate, now Malawi, in 1902, the first African American woman to arrive there as a missionary. She died in 1922 and lies in this cemetery beside the old Spanish town, where a Florida women's convention later set a stone over the grave.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
