Elmwood, colonial plantation ground turned industrial park

Elmwood was plantation land through the French and Spanish colonial periods, worked by enslaved people, and part of the same grant the Lafreniere family held. The Huey P. Long Bridge opened in 1935 and the ground filled with light manufacturing and distribution instead of cane. It is now one of the parish's main business parks, and it is unincorporated, though the firms there use New Orleans mailing addresses.
