Eldorado Canyon becomes a state park
1978
Eldorado Springs, Boulder County, Colorado
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The sandstone walls above South Boulder Creek hold some of the best known rock routes in North America, worked hard by climbers since the 1950s. Colorado bought the canyon and opened it as a state park in 1978, 885 acres split between the developed inner canyon and the undeveloped Crescent Meadows. Climbers have called it Eldo for so long that the full name sounds formal.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
