El Nuevo Herald becomes the Spanish-language daily of South Florida
1987
Doral, Florida
The Miami Herald started a Spanish-language insert in 1976 that mostly ran translations of its own English stories. In 1987 it became El Nuevo Herald with a separate staff writing in Spanish, and in 1998 it went fully standalone, serving a readership built by Cuban exile and later Latin American migration. Both papers left downtown Miami and now work out of Doral under McClatchy.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
