Ebbets Field and Jackie Robinson's first game
1947
55 Sullivan Place, Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The Dodgers opened the park in 1913 on a Crown Heights lot known as Pigtown, and on 15 April 1947 Jackie Robinson played first base here against the Boston Braves, ending sixty years of segregation in the major leagues. Brooklyn won its only World Series in 1955 and the club left for Los Angeles after the 1957 season. Demolition began in February 1960 and the Ebbets Field Apartments opened on the site in 1962.
