eBay is written over a long weekend

Pierre Omidyar wrote an auction site over Labor Day weekend and put it on his personal page. The first thing sold was a broken laser pointer, for fourteen dollars and change. He wrote to the buyer to check he understood it was broken, and was told the man collected them. The story that it was built for a girlfriend's Pez dispensers was invented later by a publicist.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
