Dey Mansion, Washington's headquarters in the Preakness valley
1780
Dey Mansion, Totowa Road, Wayne, New Jersey
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Colonel Theunis Dey built this house in the 1770s on an estate he called Bloomsburg Manor, in a farming valley well back from the British lines on the Hudson. Washington used it as his headquarters on several occasions, most heavily during 1780 while the army camped nearby. The name is said dye, not day. It is open year round for guided tours.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
