From 6 July to 18 August 1781 this farmhouse was the headquarters of the Comte de Rochambeau, with the French expeditionary force camped around it and Washington's Continentals on the neighbouring farm. The combined camp was known as the Philipsburg Encampment. It was during these six weeks that the allies gave up on retaking New York City and decided instead to march south, a decision that ended at Yorktown in October.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
