Dead Horse Bay, where the garbage comes back out
1950
Jamaica Bay, Brooklyn

The name comes from the carcasses that used to clog the water beside the glue factory, and a millstone used for grinding horse bones is still on the shore. In the 1950s Robert Moses tried to extend the land west with garbage under a layer of topsoil. The soil eroded and the rubbish now comes out of the bank at low tide. The Park Service closed the shoreline in 2020 after finding radium in it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
